History


Sri Vasavi Bommidala Government Degree College is the product of the long cherished desire of the people belonging to drought prone and backward area of Koilkuntla of Kurnool District in Rayalaseema Region of Andhra Pradesh. The college caters the educational requirements to the students of Koilkuntla and nearby villages. Koilkuntla town is located on the banks of the river Kumudvati in Renadu Area. The name was originated from the term „Regadi Nadu‟ which means ‗Black Soil‘. This Renadu produced grate historical personalities like Late Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy and Late Budda Vengala Reddy. Even before sepoy Revolt in 1857, Narasimha Reddy revolted against the British and was hanged in this town. Late Budda Vengala Reddy was hailed as „Kaliyuga Dana Karna‟ who distributed all his Property to the starving people during severe famine. He received Gold medal from Queen Victoria for his generosity. World famous Belum Caves located in this area. Sri B.V. Subba Reddy, Former Speaker of Assembly and served as Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh belongs to this Koilkuntla Town. Late Sri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, former President of India and Late Sri P.V. Narasimha Rao, former Prime Minister of India were elected form this Loksabha constituency.


The college was established in 1981, as private Degree college. Sri Talepalle Radhakrishna murthy and Sri Sannidhi Radhakrishna murthy are the founders of this college. Sri Late Pendekanti Venkata Subbaiah, former Central Minister and Governor of Bihar and Karnataka was the Chief Patron of this College, with the co-operation of Bommidala Group Guidance. The college was admitted into Andhra Pradesh Grant-in-Aid in the year 1990 and taken over by the Government of Andhra Pradesh from 1994. The college is moving ahead with times and made significant contribution in promoting the cause of Education in the backward district of Rayalaseema region in Andhra Pradesh.The college being a Government Institution, is largely catering to the needs of people who are below poverty line. Though, started with a modest beginning, the Institution is offering a wide range of courses to equip the students to face the challenges of ever-changing global scenario and modern day society.

To provide holistic education to the poor, educationally backward area students all-round development through sustainable quality academic programmes, making students self-reliant and moulding them into responsible citizens is the vision of our college, which is translated into goals and objectives. The institution offers six UG Programmes B.Sc (MPC), B.Sc (MPCs), B.Sc (BZC), B.Sc (Botany, Chemistry, Horticulture), B.Com (Computer Applications) and BA (HEP).

As the college is affiliated to Rayalaseema University, the faculty of all the departments prepare their Individual Annual Academic Plans, in which month-wise plans for implementation of Curricular and extracurricular activities are specified. All these plans will be based on the curriculum designed APSCHE and developed by the University. The Qualified Faculty is recruited by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh through APPSC Examination directly and the Junior Lecturers with NET/SLET qualified/ PhD, by promotion against Sanctioned posts, depending on the intake of the students.

However, our Institution supplements the syllabi with additional inputs in the subjects concerned. Add-on-courses like Spoken English, Spoken Turorial, JKC - TCS Career Skills Course offered by TCS Company, IBM P-Tech Courses ( Artifical Intelligence, Data Science), Electricity Wiring & Maintenance, Skill based training programme in Maggam Embroidery, painting and preparation of Eco-friendly Handmade paper bags especially for Girls Students are offered during Zero hours. These courses are intended to develop vocational skills among the students, so as to encourage them to emerge as entrepreneurs.
