Women Empowerment Cell (WEC)

Introduction

The Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) of SVB Government Degree College, under the able guidance of its coordinator, Smt. P. Annapurna, works with the objective of empowering female students by addressing gender issues, ensuring the development of leadership skills, and promoting holistic growth through various programs. The cell organizes workshops, certificate courses, and observes significant days dedicated to women’s welfare and empowerment.

Programs and Activities Conducted

  2. International Womens Day(March 8):
    The WEC organized a seminar focused on "Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World." Eminent speakers from different fields were invited to inspire the students to strive for equality and pursue leadership roles in their careers. The event also featured cultural performances, speeches by students, and the felicitation of women achievers from the local community.
  3. National Girl Child Day(January 24):
    The WEC conducted a campaign on the importance of educating the girl child and creating awareness about gender equality. A guest lecture was organized on "Empowering the Girl Child for a Brighter Tomorrow," which was followed by an interactive session with participants.
  4. World Menstrual Hygiene Day(May 28):
    To address the taboo surrounding menstrual health, the WEC organized a workshop titled "Breaking the Silence: Menstrual Health Education." The session emphasized the importance of proper hygiene practices and promoted awareness about menstrual health.

  6. Certificate Course on Self-Defense:
    In collaboration with a local martial arts institute, the WEC organized a self-defense course for female students. This 3-month course focused on imparting basic self-defense techniques to help students build confidence and ensure their safety.
  7. Certificate Course on Maggam Work:
    This course aimed to educate women students on managing personal and professional skills, and fostering entrepreneurial spirit. The sessions covered topics such as embroidery, darning, stitching, and government schemes for women entrepreneurs.
